Environment and location

Villa Deseada is in the idyllic village of Baños de Vilo with its Moorish medicinal sulfur baths located in Axarquía and part of the municipality of Periana. A beautiful area of scenic views and with peach trees, olive trees and almond trees surrounded by mountain ranges. A beautiful area for hiking and mountain biking in the beautiful natural park Montes de Malaga, Sierra Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama and the mild climate makes it especially attractive to visit Axarquia on throughout the year.


From December to March is it even possible to go skiing in the morning in the Sierra Nevada and to return in the afternoon to enjoy Sun, sea and beach at the coast side.

Nature lovers are well catered for in this area with its many walking and cycling opportunities and its white villages and ancient ruins. The coastal villages such as Torre del Mar and Torrox are just a 30-minute drive away. Malaga is an interesting city for shopping, but also for the culture lovers, this city has much to offer including museums, birth House Picasso, art galleries, restaurants, tapas bars, shops or the Moorish fortress with Castle Alcazaba.


Periana is typical Andalusian mountain village with approximately 3700 inhabitants and is located on 550 meters above sea level. On the north side, it is surrounded by several mountain ranges such as the Sierra de Enmedio, while the South overlooking the Valley of the river Guaro, the reservoir of La Viñuela and the coast. The village is known for its olives and peaches and is situated on the Ruta del Oliva. In August, the village celebrates the ' Peaches festival ' whereas said the best peaches of Spain can be bought. The olive harvest is celebrated in March with the Dia del Aceite Verdial where thousands of visitors want to taste the olive oil.

Terras Periana

There is a market every Wednesday morning in the village with local products and clothing. Periana itself has multiple festivals and consists of narrow and steep streets and alleys with shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, children's play areas and a public swimming pool. The architecture of Periana is Moors and the village church San Isidoro is built in ' Mudejar ' style. The Church, named after the patron saint of Periana, was rebuilt in 1884 after an earthquake that destroyed almost the entire village. The feast of St. Isidoro is held on and around the 15th May and the entire village celebrates than. Many in and around Periana is characterized by the Moorish influences and archaeological finds. The locals are friendly and welcoming.

Sun, sea and sand

The pretty coastal towns of Torre del Mar and Torrox which is also very popular with the Spanish locals, can be reached at about 30 minutes from Villa Deseada. Here you will find shops, restaurants and beach clubs (for example Bere Bere) where you can enjoy sun, sea, beach and tasty food. A few miles further are one of the most famous coastal towns of Andalusia, Nerja with its beautiful beach, stalactite caves (Cuevas de Nerja), Balcon de Europa and cozy terraces and shopping streets. If you want more action than you can enjoy the water activities in Nerja or stroll through Rio Chillar , fun for young and old and delicious cool on hot days. Something more inland is one of the most beautiful villages of Andalusia, Frigiliana, with the popular white houses and narrow streets.

Hiking and cycling
The environment of our Villa Deseada is characterized by the beautiful mountains with colorful blossoms of the fruit trees. Do not be surprised if you see herds of goats (click for a video) grazing under the watchful eye of a goat herder. Close to our B&B you can start various hiking and bike routes. Are you a beginning cycler or an advanced hiker, for everyone is a challenging route available. During the hiking and cycling tours you can enjoy the various natural parks and picturesque villages. Or you visit Alhama de Granada. This village is located on the edge of a Gorge with beautiful walking opportunity’s. Do you really want a challenge then visit the Caminito del Rey. On 28 March 2015 was the reopening of the restored 'Caminito del Rey', also called 'Koningspad'. The narrow walkway winds along the El Chorro kloof, a fantastic place with huge rock walls of up to 400 meters high. The Caminito already exists from the beginning of 1900 but hit over the years in decline and was officially closed in 2000 after a number of people there were killed. In the autumn of 2013 began the restoration of the ' world's most dangerous path '. The Caminito is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions of Andalusia. Andalusia has a lot to offer in the cultural field. In our own village Baños de Vilo find the Moorish medicinal sulfur baths. And what about the well-known cities as Malaga, Cordoba, Granada and Sevilla , from our Villa only one till maximum two hours by car. In addition to the fantastic cities with their interesting culture and festivals, are the routes along the several small white villages also very worth it.

Malaga you cannot effort to miss. This city can be reached within an hour by car and has so much to offer and is not for nothing called “the Barcelona of the South" with the native house of Picasso and the Picassomuseum, the cathedral, the new harbour with a contemporary shopping promenade 'MuelleUno', the lively town beach La Malagueta, a city park with tropical plants, the Alcazaba (old Castle), the Roman Theatre and more. A must do, climb to the Castillo de Gibralfaro here you have a breathtaking view of the city and the Plaza de Toros (bullring). Also, the annually Feria of Malaga is impressive, just like several processions, the Spanish cuisine and customs.

Tip: from Malaga you can travel to Madrid in only 3 hours by high speed train and where you can stay for a few days break.

Sporting activities

Water sports
Viñuela 15 minutes from our Villa is the Lake of Viñuela where you can enjoy pedal boating, canoeing and archery or various trips for groups starting from 4 people with a 4 x 4 Jeep through the beautiful Andalusian countryside.

Winter sports
Despite the mild climate you can enjoy skiing in the Sierra Nevada from December till March, around 2 hours drive from our Villa.

For the mountain biker or cyclist who wants a little more challenging, here are plenty of opportunities to pass through the mountains to cycling with its beautiful rises and falls. Also, suitable for training purposes by bicycle groups who stay in our Villa and relax after a challenging bike tour.
